About Jon Watson…

Jon Watson became a Christian in his early teen years.  His desire to learn and grow as a believer was nurtured at Hesperia Community Church in California by Pastor Sherman Wall, a Dallas Theological Seminary graduate.  As a result, Jon attended Biola University, graduating CUM LAUDE in 1971 with a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences, minors in Chemistry and Bible, and Secondary Education.

After spending three years in the U.S. Army as a Biological Research Assistant, Jon returned to Biola, working initially as a part-time Lab Instructor, and then branching off into another area as Director of Physical Plant.  While working at Biola, he completed 90+ units of graduate-level work at Talbot Theological Seminary in the areas of New Testament Studies, Christian School Administration, Christian Education, and Apologetics.  After working at Biola for 13 years, as well as a few years at two other colleges, he was encouraged to apply for a teaching position in the High Desert (where he grew up) at Apple Valley Christian School.

Jon taught a variety of high school subjects at AVCS, including Biblical Foundations, Christian Thought, Apologetics, Philosophy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Environmental Science, Literature, and History.  He, along with his wife and three children, thrived at AVCS.  After their children were all grown, and he had been teaching at AVCS for 32 years, he and his wife moved to Georgetown, Texas to join their children there.

His retirement did not last long, as his desire for teaching was strong.  During his teaching career, he has concluded that students learn best in an integrated learning environment with Socratic-style teaching.  He found this difficult to provide in the traditional school classroom, but now he is pleased to provide this vital learning environment for homeschool students in the Georgetown area on a much smaller basis – Oxford Style Instruction with small groups of high school students.

Jon is a lifelong learner and loves passing this on to his students.  He enjoys reading and spending time with his family.  He loves his students dearly and it has been his deepest joy to serve many wonderful students over his years of teaching.  His supreme goal has been to send off students who are stable in their beliefs as Christians and who can articulate their faith clearly, prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope that is in them, with gentleness and respect (I Peter 3:15).
